Makiti Skateboarding

Avid skateboarders can look forward to two days of demonstrations and a chance to try their hand at obstacles in a special skate park, as part of the Maroela Makiti.

This will take place on January 31 and February 1 at Hoërskool Bergvlam and fill the sport grounds with stalls, exhibitions and entertainment.

Four professional skateboarders from Johannesburg, Lebogang Modise, Brendon Dyamond, Thabo Nage and David Woolf, will take over the skate park to demonstrate their skills.

The G-sk8t Skate Park will open at 15:45 on January 31, with a free opportunity for skateboarders from 16:00 to 18:00. The professionals will put in an appearance from 17:00 to 18:00. From 18:00 to 20:00 there will be another free skating opportunity. Alter Dayz, a local band will provide entertainment from 18:00 to 19:00.

On Saturday the park opens at 09:30. The first of the pros, Thabo Nage and Lebogang Modise, will hold a demonstration at 11:00 and from 13:00 and 14:00, Brendon Dyamon and David Woolf will share their tricks.

Skateboarders can test their skills at the junior or senior competition which will take place at 12:00 (juniors) or 14:00 (seniors). Registration is from 10:00.

Alter Dayz will once again take to the stage for a performance at 17:00. The evening will end off with a free skateboard opportunity until 20:00.

The park will be set up by G-sk8t, a Nelspruit skateboarding organisation. It will have, among others, a ¼ pipe, park bench, fixed rails, pole jam and kicker ramps.
