Cyclists excel in Das Auto MTB challenge

Cyclists continue to improve and this weekend managed to take four spots on the podium.

The fourth leg of the Das Auto MTB Series recently took place a Penryn College and Lydenburg cyclists are on fire.

Cyclists continue to improve and this weekend managed to take four spots on the podium. Blessing Moima, one of the stars in Lydenburg High School who is currently performing exceptionally well, took the lead in the Junior Men category, and finished the 25km in a time of 00:58:49, almost two minutes faster than the previous race. Teammate Klaas Sebanyeni of Skhila also improved and celebrated his third place with delight. He is currently laying in fourth position after four stages of the series.

In the Youth Men category, the promising 15-year-old Bongani Ngwana, also claimed a victory in a time of 01:02:55. According to Sheena Clark, Ngwana improved a lot this season and great things are expected from this young rider, especially in the Spur School Series, which kicks off this weekend. Henyo Kruger just missed out on the top three and ended up in fourth position while Donald Hlase of Mashishing High claimed a seventh place in his category.

In the 15km challenge, Neo Makofane took the limelight by winning the OM category in a time of 00:41:03. Makofane is currently in fourth position overall, with one race to go while Kafiwa Mathipa finished in fifth in a time of 00:44:48. With a very good overall improvement, Charles Erasmus also ended up on the podium and celebrated a well-deserved third place in the Sub-Junior category. The 13-year-old Joshua Schulz crossed the line only one minute after Erasmus to claim fourth and is currently laying fifth overall.
