Dishonest cashier’s boom ends

A woman has been suspended from her post as a cashier after she allegedly overcharged customers and pocketed the extra cash.
The female, who worked at the Absa Square parking-lot pay station in the city centre, has been accused of charging customers R2 more than what they should have paid for the time they were parked at the centre.
Local Mr JP Barnard told Nelspruit Post he suspected that he had paid an extra R2 for parking as many as five times.
The last time he was apparently asked to pay R6 for 30 minutes instead of R4.
He claimed the cashier only admitted that she asked for too much money when he had asked for a receipt.
“When I asked for a receipt, the cashier at the boom gate just said ‘oh, sorry’, and returned my R2. If I hadn’t asked for one she would never have admitted that she ‘accidentally’ took an extra R2,” Barnard said.
The woman is an employee of Interpark which is responsible for managing the parking lot. Mr Rudi Botha, operations manager of Interpark, assured Nelspruit Post that the employee was suspended as soon as the evidence had surfaced.
“The chairman of Interpark will come to Mbombela to decide which steps to take next. For now, we just warn all cashiers that these allegations will not be taken lightly. This is serious,” Botha said.
Interpark makes use of an independent company to perform disciplinary action.
A hearing is expected to take place today.
