Cause of tremor still unknown

Locals in Burgersfort and surrounding areas were in shock after they experienced tremor on Wednesday morning

BURGERSFORT – On Wednesday morning tremor was experienced by locals in Burgersfort and surrounding areas.
Steelburger/Lydenburg News contacted the surrounding mines to confirm the cause or any injuries sustained. Two mines located on the R37 road to Polokwane stated that they did not experience any tremor. No accident reports were made by any mines regarding the tremor.
The council for Geoscience was contacted by one of our journalist’s, but no feedback was yet received. Surrounding hospitals also confirmed that no patients were admitted due to injuries sustained by the tremor.
Readers commented the following on our Steelburger Facebook page regarding the tremor; Penelopé Volker commented that she experienced the tremor in Aloe Ridge East, but she thought it may be blasting. Steven Jacobs also said he experienced it in Steelpoort.
Earthquake track shows cities and other provinces affected recently by earthquakes. Unfortunately, the tremor in Burgersfort was not indicated.
