Case postponed of poacher arrested for two hidden tusks in maize meal bags

Maluleque Arlindo Feniassie, a suspected elephant poacher, brazenly tried to drive across the border with two elephant tusks in miaze meal bags on the back of his bakkie but was stopped by rangers and arrested.

MALUMELELE-The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation on Tuesday said a 28-year-old Mozambican man was caught at the weekend with two elephant tusks hidden in maize meal bags on the back of his bakkie.

The suspect Maluleque Arlindo Feniassie was entering the Kruger National Park through Punda Maria-gate when he was stopped by park rangers. During the search of his car, rangers uncovered two elephant tusks hidden in the back of the suspect’s vehicle.“We suspect that he wanted to go back to Mozambique through the KNP. The tusks were hidden inside maize meal bags,” said Captain Matimba Maluleke.

He has appeared before the Malamulele Magistrate Court on Tuesday for unlawful possession of elephant tusks. His case was postponed to the 11 July for formal bail application.
