Join the campaign to eradicate all racism

Today, on International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Anti-Racism Week comes to an end. But the campaign to end racism doesn't end here. Find out how you can help.

Every year the Anti-Racism Week is held from March 14 to 21 and this year’s aim was to #TakeOnRacism by learning and talking about it and acting against it.

It is hosted by the Anti-Racism Network South Africa, which constitutes of 60 organisations and is spearheaded by the Nelson Mandela and Ahmed Kathrada foundations.

Here are five ways you can help eradicate racism:

• Approach your sport club and get them to arrange a club discussion on issues of race and the club’s policy.

• Invite people of different cultures to visit the school and talk to the kids about their culture, their experience of racism and their solutions to the issue. Let the kids dress up in the colours of the SA flag on a certain day and host an art or essay competition on the topic.

• Arrange church meetings were issues surrounding faiths such as Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Christianity. Educate community members about the various faiths and the importance of standing up against racism.

• Host a round-table discussion on racism at your work. Encourage employees to discuss issues or incidents of racism and how this can be avoided or addressed.

• Discuss your anti-racism views, policies and solutions on social media using #TakeOnRacism.
