MBOMBELA – The six braai teams that qualified for the Mpumalanga Show Braai Off final next month are in for more adventure than a mere competition.
The were chosen from 15 participating teams that battled it out for their place on Women’s Day at i’langa Mall.

The judges, consisting of culinary guru Justin Bonello, Lowvelder’s editor, De Wet Potgieter and Vodacom’s Andrew Jones sought out those who brought out their culinary A-game.

“The competition was stiff, with entries of a high standard,” said Potgieter. The braaiers’ imagination, food preparation and presentation made it tough for the judges to choose. But at the end of the day there could only five, with a wild-card winner making the total six.

The teams through to the final are Die Braai Boep Braaiers, Braaibroertjies, Die Laeveld Braai Tjo”m”pies, Born to Braai and Kleyn Bietjie Braai. Premier Hotel The Winkler were the wild-card winners. During the finals, the six teams will have to create a three-course meal on the braai and pair it with wine.

“But not until they have done their shopping at SUPERSPAR The Grove and completed a 4×4 obstacle course at the Mbombela Stadium in the provided Land Rovers.

The quicker they complete these tasks, the quicker they can get braaiing,” says Lindi Botha, marketing manager of the Mpumalanga Show.
The finals take place on Friday September 1 during the Mpumalanga Show at Mbombela Stadium.
