An armed robbery took place at Food Lover’s Market on Monday night just as shop personnel were closing up.
According to Divergent Ops’ Jacques Meiring, three men armed with handguns walked into the store.
“They tied the staff up and proceeded to take the CCTV computers from the upstairs office. They took an undisclosed amount of money.”
Meiring said his officer, Andre Burger responded to a call-out on Nelspruit Concerned Citizens Zello channel.
The police’s flying squad unit, Taysec Security, CSG Hi-Tech Security Lowveld and ER24 responded to the call.

“When Burger got to the scene he saw the men running and gave chase,” said Meiring.
He managed to catch one. He was in possession of a balaclava.
“Burger found a wallet containing an ID book on him. It was assumed it belonged to one of the other suspects.”

Shortly afterwards CSG Hi-Tech Security Lowveld response manager Callum MacPherson said they were responding to another alarm and checking the area behind BUCO, near the railway tracks.
“We saw about four men walking from Vintonia. When they saw us they ran so we gave chase,” said MacPherson.
Another officer drove in from Vintonia’s side and managed to catch two of the suspects who were running towards him.
One of the captured suspects had a firearm on him. The ID found on the suspect who had been caught by
Divergent Ops, belonged to one of the suspects caught by CSG Hi-Tech. Police spokesman Capt Dawie Pretorius said two of the suspects were arrested and they were investigating a case of armed robbery.
At the time of going to press, the management of Food Lover’s Market had not commented on the incident.
