#HammanTour celebrating our shared heritage
In search of the stories that don't usually make it on to the radio, the #HammanTour spent two days exploring the cultural heritage of Mpumalanga.
MBOMBELA – Nick Hamman of 5FM’s Hamman Time brought the Mpumalanga leg of his #HammanTour to the city last week. It celebrates our shared heritage in the form of the month-long Heritage Month-inspired #HammanTour.
Following a live broadcast from the SABC studios in town last week, Hamman’s team visited Pilgrims Rest, Hop Hollow Brewery (the highest pub in Africa) and Kaapsehoop over the weekend.

This month, Hamman Time, which airs Mondays to Fridays from 09:00 to 12:00, aims to take listeners on a journey through all nine provinces highlighting significant places and people he meets along the way.
No stranger to taking it to the street, Hamman and his team will be traversing South Africa in search of the stories that otherwise would not have made it onto radio.
Earlier this year, Hamman and his team walked over 300 kilometres from Pretoria to Polokwane in search of stories that highlighted the diversity of our country.
“I think travel and exploration have become synonymous with the show, so this series is a way of sharing the intimate information that I come across during my travels across South Africa,” said Hamman.
The #HammanTour kicked off with a visit to North West on September 1.

From there the team made their way to Limpopo to visit the ancient kingdom of Mapungubwe and taste some mopane worms in just two of the stops along the way.

Commenting on why he decided to embark on the #HammanTour, Hamman said, “I travel a lot in the country, and the South Africans that I would meet and the representations of South Africa that I would get through the news and social media were not the same.
“The nuances weren’t there, and that got us thinking if that’s the case, then what are South Africans really like?”
To Hamman, the most important aspect of the tour is finding and sharing the diverse histories of the people that make up the country.
“I think that sharing stories is important and my role and the role of this trip is to provide a platform to people. It’s what the #HammanTour really is about.
“Our provinces are so vastly different, each with its own feel and energy to it, so far this is one of the most incredible trips that I’ve done.
“I would advise that before you break the bank and go to America or Mauritius that you travel in South Africa. Spend your money here. This is a truly amazing country, it really is!”
