Orpen Gate out of bounds again

Tourists visiting the Kruger National Park today (October 24) should use alternative access points since the road to Orpen Gate is blocked due to protests. Three camp restaurants are also still affected by a dispute between SANParks and the franchise holder.

Tourists who intend to visit the Kruger National Park today (October 24) should take note that Orpen Gate is inaccessible again due to protests in front of the Southern Wildlife College that blocks the road (R531) at the moment.

Visitors are advised to use alternative gates such as Paul Kruger and Phalaborwa to access or exit the Park until further notice.

Visitors to Letaba, Satara and Olifants rest camps should also note that the restaurants in these camps do not operate to full capacity due to an ongoing dispute between Ringgold and SANParks around the lawfulness of Ringgold’s occupation of the facilities.

Due to the fact that Ringgold had for a considerable period not made any payment towards the utilities charges levied by SANParks at the three rest camps, SANParks terminated their supply of utilities and related services in September.

According to thehead of communications at SANParks, Janine Raftopoulos, they regret the inconvenience caused to visitors but had established temporary facilities in each of the three camps. “Since legal processes are underway, we will issue an update as soon as legalities are confirmed,” she said.
