Young cyclists spend time with professionals

World class cyclists, Daryl Impey and Louis Meintjies joined Team Infinita for a training camp in Hazyview recently.

Team Infinita recently held their annual training camp at Hippo Hollow in Hazyview with the head of Road Cycling South Africa, Bosseau Boshoff at the helm.

A qualified level-two Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) coach, Boshoff, aims to develop junior talent in the country.

“I started the academy almost seven years ago and at the end of 2016 I started a junior team with one goal in mind: To become the best junior team in SA. This we achieved in June,” said Boshoff.

This year Team Infinita was honoured to host the first half of the camp, which catered to riders who were invited to enjoy base training, alongside the two-time top-10 Tour de France contender, Louis Meintjies.

According to Boshoff, who has worked with Meintjies at the World Championships and the South African Road Championships while he was riding for team Lampre Merida, Meintjies has always been keen to share his knowledge with young riders.

“The second half of the camp was dedicated to developing the junior riders who would be selected for the 2018 season,” said Boshoff.

Internationally acclaimed rider and uphill-sprint specialist Daryl Impey joined the training camp by taking team Infinita under his wing.

“I believe what Bosseau is doing is very important for cycling as this creates a platform for young riders who would one day want to make a career of cycling,” said Impey, and added that the training camp provided a nice start to the youngsters’ training regime and that he was pleased to see someone taking initiative to work on the development of the sport.

With their sights set on qualifying for team Infinita the young riders are hard at work and looking forward to the announcement of the team early next year.
