WATCH how a Malibu bird recovers after being hit by a car.

A Malibu was hit by a car during the early hours of the morning, but luckily good Samaritans gave him a second chance.

BURGERSFORT – Steelburger/Lydenburg News reporter Mariska Sadler was called out to a scene where a Malibu bird has been hit by a car. It was a hit and run. The bird who was unable to stand on his own was vulnerable and injured. Bystanders said that a white vehicle hit the bird while he was standing in the middle of the road.

He was then transported to a nearby farm where a local farmer Cathy de Jager administered a substance to counter act poison. “With wildlife you never know what the situation exactly is, therefor you prepare for the worst and make sure you have got everything covered,” says de Jager. She had saved many birds in the past that has been poisoned. Poison may have been the reason he was standing in the road, not moving when the vehicle came closer, but the only way to tell is with further testing.

Reporters checked in with him three hours later, and saw that he was now standing and walking on his own, eating some raw chicken and drinking water. He will remain at the farm until he is strong enough to fly away on his own.
