Artsy treats await at festival

The festival will create awareness of the town’s beauty and raise funds for a charity.

The eighth Canimambo Free Form Music and Arts Festival will take place in Graskop from July 13 to 15.

It is a creative arts festival hosted by Canimambo Restaurant to expose Africa’s freeform talent, create awareness of the town’s beauty and to raise funds for a charity.

This year it will raise funds for The Meyer Beukes Warriors on Wheels Foundation, and the festival will be held between Canimambo Restaurant and the Graskop Holiday Resort.

Festivalgoers can arrive from Friday July 13 at 13:00 for activities and entertainment which include hiking trails, a drumming circle and fire dancing on the festival grounds and a party with a “Friday the 13th” theme at the restaurant.

On Saturday July 14 the festival grounds and ticket sales will open from 11:00 until 23:00. The day will start off with an Arts in Motion competition where each artist will sketch, paint, spray or form any art on a board to the theme of Tabula Rasa.

This art will be auctioned off in aid of The Meyer Beukes Warriors on Wheels Foundation. The winner of the competition will receive a hamper with prizes from local businesses.

People interested in entering the competition or exhibiting at the fest can e-mail freeformfestival@gmail.com for more information.

Other entertainment on Saturday will include a variety of live bands, food, arts and craft stalls, extreme sports, a kiddies’ corner with jumping castle and art competitions, unplugged poetry, theatre and an open mic chill zone.

On Sunday at 12:00 there will be a free nature tour of the surrounding areas, guided by two crew members.
