Dandelion Prayers raise funds to help former Onderberger recover
To help with his recovery process and cover medical costs, Damian Corbett's family are raising funds through various projects.
KOMATIPOORT – Eleven months after he was in a serious accident, Damian Corbett is slowly progressing.
The 23-year-old former Onderberger moved to Tzaneen at the start of last year, but his farming career was cut short soon after.

On May 20 he sustained major head trauma and physical fractures during a vehicle accident. He now suffers from diffuse axonal injury, a severe traumatic brain injury.

He spent months in various hospitals and was released on November 30.
His family, which include several Onderbergers, rallied to support him and raise funds for the medical treatment.

He is currently being cared for at home by his mother, Yvonne, and a 24-hour nurse, as he is still in a condition that requires high care.
His trachea was removed in early February and he is now slowly learning how to swallow again.
Damian undergoes extensive physio, occupational and speech therapy and is monitored by a general physician and dietician. This is needed to strengthen his body to hopefully get him out of his wheelchair one day and get him self-reliant, eating, dressing and bathing by himself. Family members say they are awaiting his first words with bated breath.
To help with his recovery, a variety of expensively priced equipment is needed. Dadelion Prayers, the family’s fund-raising and support initiative, hopes to raise as much money as possible this year.
They participated in the Love4Claws car boot sale earlier this month and will host a golf day at the Malelane Golf Club on May 19 to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the accident.

They are also selling raffle tickets at R50 each, to be drawn at the golf day. The first prize is a wheelbarrow load of alcohol and the second prize a whole sheep, cut and packed.
