New president for Rotary White River

Her goal for the year is a plastic-free environment.

Renate Bowers was recently inducted as the 64th president of the Rotary Club of White River.

The reins were handed to her by outgoing president Frances Hyson at a function held at the White River Golf Club.

In her acceptance speech Bowers stated that her goal for the year is a plastic-free environment, an initiative she called “Bye-bye Plastic”.

The Rotary Club of White River will embark on a project where shopping bags made out of cloth will be sold at a discounted rate in exchange for plastic bags.

These bags will in turn be given to a community project overseen by Ann Penny Boden and used to make recycled crochet items.

Additional eco-friendly projects are also in the pipeline.
