Police investigating three armed robberies in less than a week

Cash and cellphones were among the loot criminals escaped with during three robberies in the Tonga policing area between last Wednesday and Sunday.

TONGA – Last Wednesday around midnight, six people’s peaceful prayer gathering at a church was interrupted by two armed robbers.

The men, both wearing balaclavas, reportedly gained access to the church through a window. They threatened the six victims with a firearm and stole cellphones, money, bank cards and vehicle keys.

The suspects fled in one of the victims’ vehicles. It was later recovered in Magogeni.

No injuries were reported.

A case of armed robbery was opened and police are still on the lookout for the suspects.

On Saturday two suspects barged into Nkomazi Ceramic Tiles in Block C and held the employees at gunpoint.
They fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and a cellphone.

On Sunday, four armed suspects robbed Galaxy Bingo in Tonga of an undisclosed amount of cash.

Community members are urged to contact Capt Madala Ndashe on 061-194-3140 with any information that could help them in their investigation.

Police had a successful crime-driven operation on Sunday.

In the early morning hours a tip-off led police to three stolen vehicles at a guest house in Madadeni.

A 34-year-old suspect was arrested, while another managed to flee.

A 41-year-old suspect was later arrested at a guest house in Ntunda and another vehicle seized.

According to police records, three vehicles were stolen in Rustenburg, Amanzimtoti and Brooklyn. The fourth car belongs to a rental company.
