A new three-year plan is under way and the team is energised with an exciting new game plan.

Hazyview Rugby Club is flexing its muscles for the coming season.

Affiliated to the Pumas Rugby Union, the club offers players a platform from which to develop their game skills, enjoy camaraderie and represent the community of Hazyview at league level.

The club, which embraces the Boksmart system, offers up-to-date training including ball skills development by Pumas Sevens Rugby coach, Charles Gates. Club coach, local businessman and rugby enthusiast, Manie van Wyk, encouraged players to adopt a disciplined and committed attitude on and off the field.

Having recently attended a coaching clinic organised by the Pumas and presented by rugby greats such as Springbok coach, Rassie Erasmus, Blikkies Groenewald (chairman of Bulls coaching association) and Carel du Plessis (South African Rugby Union), Van Wyk expressed his newly found respect for the technical approach adopted at a national and international level.

Backed by a new management team and assisted by Piet Taljaard, Van Wyk’s “back to basics” approach and optimistic vision for the team are contagious, with local businesses joining the line-up to endorse and sponsor the club.

Fans can also look forward to seeing their favourite team run onto the field sporting stunning new jerseys, courtesy of sponsors Legacy Hotels and Resorts’ local lodges, Kruger Park Lodge and Elephant Point. The jerseys were handed over during a small ceremony, which took place at Numbi Primary School on February 21.

Elephant Point has also sponsored a weekend for six people, including a game drive (valued at R30 000) for the player of the season. Other sponsors include Hazyview Dry Cleaners and G’s Restaurant.

The new management team, comprising Kobus Fouché (chairman), André Eden (treasurer), Kitty le Grange (secretary), Manie van Wyk (head coach), Piet Taljaard (assistant coach), invited locals to come and support the team at local matches.

The club practises at Numbi Primary School’s rugby field on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:30 to 20:00.

A friendly game will be played this weekend in Mbombela and the rest of the season’s fixtures will be finalised soon.
