Five tourists injured after head on collision

Five tourists were injured after a head-on collision between a bus and another vehicle on the R532 road between Sabie and Graskop on Wednesday.

The driver of the tourist bus, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, also sustained mild injuries.

Martin Jeffrey, operations manager at Emer-G-Med, confirmed the incident and said they responded to the scene at approximately 09:30. He said that the tourist bus was travelling from Graskop towards Pilgrim’s Rest. The passengers are from France.

The driver of the other vehicle, an Eco Sport, is also a tourist and from Germany.

He claimed that he had lost concentration driving through the scenic turns, daydreaming that he was back in Europe. This allegedly led to him driving on the wrong side of the road, in the oncoming lane, so the two vehicles collided head-on.

Jeffrey said the patients were transported to Mediclinic Nelspruit for treatment. Nobody was seriously injured.
