Korona tips as per Steelburger

As seen in China, the coronavirus spreads fast. This is evident in Italy, the second hardest hit country. As as the weeks passed, reports from various media houses indicated that the virus was nearing Africa.

Last week, however, the virus was confirmed in South Africa. Steelburger/Lydenburg News gives you a breakdown of what you need to know about this virus, what to do and what not to do, as well as the signs and symptoms. We will also give you the necessary contact numbers that you can call if you suspect a case of Covid-19.

What is the coronavirus?

Corona is a name for a group of viruses. That is why we refer to this strain as the Covid-19. According to medicalnewstoday.com, these are viruses that affect the respiratory tracts of birds and mammals, including humans. Doctors associate them with the common cold, bronchitis, pneumonia, and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and they can also affect the gut. The name “coronavirus” comes from the crown-like projections on their surfaces. “Corona” in Latin means “halo” or “crown”.

Symptoms

• Sneezing, runny nose, fatigue, cough, fever in rare cases, sore throat and exacerbated asthma.

Treatment

• According to the website, there is as yet no cure, so treatments include self-care and over-the-counter medication. People can take several steps, including resting and avoiding overexertion, drinking enough water, avoiding smoking and smoky areas, taking acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or naproxen for pain and fever using a clean humidifier or cool mist vaporiser. A doctor can diagnose the virus responsible by taking a sample of respiratory fluids, such as mucus from the nose, or blood.

Precautions

• The World Health Organisation made a press release public advising people on how to take the necessary measures to prevent them from contracting the virus. They advise people to wash their hands frequently, maintain a distance from other people of at least one metre, avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth, and cover your mouth when you sneeze or yawn. If you have a cough or fever and struggle to get it under control, seek medical advice, and lastly stay updated on the latest news of the virus in your area.
