Office of the Chief Justice warns public against fraudulent use of the Chief Justice’s name

The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) released a statement on March 31 stating that it has been made aware of an individual who is fraudulently using the Chief Justice’s name to scam unsuspecting victims.

It said this individual targets people with the aim of soliciting large amounts of money by identifying himself as Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng.

The OCJ mentioned that the individual in question sends emails from the following email address: executiveheadoffice@gmail.com and sends text messages from the following number: 064-462-2378.

The OCJ wanted to express to the public that neither the Chief Justice nor the Office of the Chief Justice is linked to the email address or to the person claiming to be part of the office.

It implored members of the public to report any communication from the above email address or mobile number to the SAPS.
Furthermore, the OCJ asked that any person who suspects that they are being scammed by someone claiming to be a judicial officer or an official of the OCJ is requested to contact the OCJ for verification.
