PHOTOS: Lydenburg residents march against newly implemented amp charge

As they marched around town the protesters had posters which read, “TCM where is the money going? TCM is destroying our town and TCM destroying our future”.

A peaceful protest was held against the newly implemented amp charge on Saturday.

The ratepayers of Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) said the implemented amp charge on electricity purchases is unfair.

The protesters said they cannot afford it and TCM needs to cancel the amp charge.

As they marched around town the protesters had posters which read, “TCM where is the money going? TCM is destroying our town and TCM destroying our future”.

These charges are being applied to all households that purchase prepaid electricity.

According to a statement from TCLM the amp charge deducted from resident’s prepaid electricity purchases is an attempt by the governing body to accumulate funds to pay off the R760 million owed to Eskom.
