Inmate escapes from Nelspruit Correctional Services
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has confirmed that a prisoner escaped the Nelspruit Correctional facility this afternoon. A search is underway.

Spokesperson for Correctional Services, Singabakho Nxhumalo, confirmed that Madumbuque Acacid Agastirho, a Mozambican national, escaped from Nelspruit Correctional Services at around 12:10 today.
The man was sentenced to 90 days for being in the country illegally.
“DCS working with the SAPS has launched a man hunt in an effort to rearrest this escapee,” explained Sibangakho Nxumalo, spokesperson of DCS.

A resident in the area, Petra Poupado, said guards from the prison came by her gate at 12:38 this afternoon to inform her of the inmate’s escape.
According to Poupado, the guards told her the man was Mozambican and also to be careful as escapees tend to hide somewhere and then come out again at night.
She saw four more guards walking in the area behind her house searching for him.

The public is advised to immediately contact their nearest police station and never attempt to institute a citizen’s arrest as Madumbuque Acacid Agastirho is regarded to be dangerous.
“The department remains concerned about any escape and continues to strive towards the ideal standard of zero escapes,” concluded Nxumalo.
