Local teen recovering from brain surgery

Bruce Tonkin (17), who underwent brain surgery following a motorcycle accident, is recovering well.

This is according to his mother, Michelle Tonkin.

“Bruce has improved enough to be moved to a general ward,” Michelle said. “He was moved late on Thursday afternoon.”

According to her, her son is still experiencing fatigue and exhaustion.

“He is receiving oxygen, pain medication and antibiotics, but the doctors are monitoring his pain,” she said.

Bruce underwent brain surgery to repair skull fractures that had caused fluid to leak out of his brain, on May 4. This followed his motorcycle accident on the R538/Plaston Road outside White River on April 25.
