Woman arrested for defrauding SARS

A woman was arrested on Friday for allegedly defrauding SARS.

Zanele Maluleke (41) is the seventh person arrested in the scheme in which the director of a company called Mpelani Construction allegedly added her as a beneficiary.

She allegedly received undue payments from SARS, which cost the state almost R1 million.

She appeared in the Nelspruit Commercial Crime Court soon after her arrest and was released on R3 000 bail.

She is charged with fraud, theft or, alternatively, contravening the Tax Administration Act.

Her case has been postponed to July 13.
