Barberton cross-country hopes to go across the country

Contact sports at schools may have been suspended in preparation for the third wave, but Hoërskool Barberton's cross-country team is still going strong.

There are six meets in the province of which four have to be competed in for the school to qualify for the Mpumalanga Championship that will be held on August 14.

From there the top 12 will go to the South African Championship that will take place on September 18 in Amazintoti in KwaZulu-Natal.

Hoërskool Barberton’s team, coached by Renatha Botha, hope that some of their athletes will qualify for Mpumalanga and even the SAs. Botha’s aim is to have the school compete in all the competitions to ensure they are able to send as many athletes to the nationals as possible.

The first race was held on May 15 where Mbuso Thobejane walked away with gold. The second will be taking place on Friday May 29.
