Suspension of visits to correctional services still applies
The Department of Correctional Services wished to remind the public of this fact.

Following the announcement that the country was moving to Covid-19 adjusted alert level 3, the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) reminded the public about the suspension of visits to correctional and remand detention centres across the country.
The department said these measures enable it to continue protecting both officials and inmates from the Covid-19 pandemic.
“DCS has been implementing restrictions and adhering to all regulations to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.”
The department said that as of June 20, the total number of active Covid cases in the DCS amounted to 256, comprising of 224 officials and 33 inmates.
The total cumulative positive cases were 12 202, with 7 711 officials and 4 491 inmates. The number of deaths are 258; 180 officials and 78 inmates.

The department further reminded the public that contact consultations between legal practitioners and inmates were allowed under strict conditions observing all Covid-19 protocols.
Legal practitioners should make prior appointments with the centres when they seek consultations with inmates.
“DCS’s top priority remains the health and safety of our officials, inmates and the public.”
