IN PHOTOS: Scouts’ wetland clean-up a Youth Day success

A week ago, as the Scouting Mpumalanga’s Youth Day contribution, the group took to White River for a wetland clean-up.

According to the regional commissioner for the scouts in Mpumalanga, Manqoba Dlamini, our youth are facing many challenges in this day and age and climate change, pollution, water scarcity and habitat degradation are among these.

It is because of this that the scouts decided to tackle the wetland in White River.

Dlamini said the day went very well. There were 12 scouts present and one member of the public also joined in on the operation.

“We collected three full bags of plastic from the wetland. We also did a wetland talk looking at wetland ecosystems, pollution and environmental stewardship.

“After cleaning we took a pledge to continue cleaning the environment and raising awareness on the issue of plastic in our water systems.”
