3 die in Lillydale Trust domestic shooting

Three people died in an alleged murder-suicide following a family dispute in Lillydale Trust.

Police in Calcutta have opened two murder dockets and an inquest docket following a shooting that left three people dead in Lillydale Trust on Thursday, October 8, at 16:00.

Officers on patrol responded to reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found the body of Mlungisi Mndawe, who had suffered a gunshot wound, while two injured women were rushed to a nearby medical facility.

The two women, identified as Marvel Khosa and her daughter, Ayanda Khosa, were later declared dead at the facility.

Family dispute turns fatal

“It is alleged that there was a family meeting to resolve domestic issues,” said Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo.

Masondo said Mndawe allegedly retrieved a licensed firearm from his vehicle and shot the two women, before allegedly turning the gun on himself.

Police recovered a licensed firearm at the scene. The ages of the deceased had not been confirmed at the time of publication.

Rising gun violence in area

More than 40 people have died as a result of gun-related incidents in areas serviced by the Calcutta Police Station this year.

The station, located in Mkhuhlu near Hazyview, services an area local residents have dubbed ‘land of blood’ due to high rates of violent crime.
