Joint effort leads to recovery of goods
Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place in the city on Sunday.Col Donald Mdhluli, the spokesperson for the Mpumalanga SAPS, said according to the information they received, three armed men stole an undisclosed number of cell phones from a local store.
Some of the cell phones were later recovered out of town in the vehicle they had used to flee the scene.
“After the robbery in Mbombela the suspects were traced to KaBokweni. On arrival to the traced area a firearm and some of the cell phones were found inside a Toyota Quantum.”
This recovery was a team effort by SAPS, Bossies Community Justice (BCJ) and Hi-Tech White River and Northern Regions.

Albert Gryvenstein, the general manager of BCJ, said after they had received the information about the robbery they reacted.
“We asked Hi-Tech and the SAPS for assistance, which led to a manhunt. Although the suspects managed to escape, the vehicle used in the commission of the crime, 46 cell phones and a firearm were recovered.”
Gryvenstein said he appreciated the team- work by all the parties that were involved in the recovery of these goods.

Mdhluli said the incident occurred at around 10:30.
“Three armed male suspects allegedly entered a business premises and forced the employees at gunpoint to go into a storeroom. The suspects then helped themselves to an undisclosed number of cell phones. They then fled the scene with the items. The matter was reported to police in Mbombela where a case was opened accordingly and the investigation commenced with the launch of manhunt for the suspects.”
According to him, the police are following up on leads and arrests are imminent.
