Mpumalanga MEC hands himself over to the police in connection with murder and attempted murder

Last month the provincial SAPS launched a manhunt for suspects responsible for killing two people and injuring one.

On Monday the national SAPS spokesperson, Brig Vish Naidoo, issued a statement regarding the arrest of an MEC in Mpumalanga.

According to Naidoo, the MEC, accompanied by his attorney, handed himself over to the police in Mbombela in connection with at least two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

“The MEC is alleged to have been involved in a shooting in which two people were fatally shot and a third person wounded in Mbombela on August 22.

“His arrest brings the number of people arrested in connection with this case to three. On September 17, the police arrested Joseph Charlie Ngwenya (35) and Tshepo Matsane (30). They both appeared in court at least twice before being granted R20 000 bail each on Friday October 8.”
