Sword of Command handed over to first female provincial commissioner of Mpumalanga

A medal parade took place at Mbombela Stadium on Thursday November 18, at which the sword was handed over.

The national commissioner of the South African Police Service, Gen Khehla John Sitole, officially handed over the Sword of Command to the first female provincial commissioner of Mpumalanga, Lt Gen Semakaleng Manamela,  on Thursday morning.

Gen Sitole handed over the Sword of Command at a medal parade at Mbombela Stadium.  The medal parade was held to honour and appreciate long serving members throughout the province who have served the organisation with distinction.

The handing over of the Sword of Command is an honour bestowed upon a newly appointed provincial commissioner and symbolises a change in command.

Manamela assumed office on July 1, taking over the reigns from her predecessor, Lt Gen Mondli Zuma, whose five-year term came to an end in March this year.

On parade were 30 members who received their 30-year Loyal Service Medals.

Besides honouring their 30 years served, these medals signify having displayed an irreproachable character and exemplary conduct.
