Child among six dead in accident on R38

The R38 was closed due to an accident that occurred at around 14:00 today.

Six people died around 14:00 today, November 4, when a truck and VW Polo collided head-on on the R38 between Badplaas and Barberton.

The deceased include a child, four males and one female. Five of the victims were occupants in the sedan. The truck driver was also declared dead at the scene.

The only passenger in the truck sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital. It is believed one of the drivers was attempting to overtake dangerously when the crash occurred. The investigation into the crash is already under way.

The MEC for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe, has once more appealed to motorists to drive with great caution to curb deaths as a result of road crashes. The MEC sent his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
