Great businessman and humble resident passes away
A well-known businessman and well-respected member of the community passed away on Monday January 24.
Garth McGee was the third generation of the well-known McGee family that has owned McGee Ford.
He handed over the reins to his sons a few years ago. Clifford McGee is the current dealer principal in Lydenburg.

This well-known dealership, on the corner of Voortrekker and Viljoen streets, has been a staple in the auto dealer industry since 1886, not only in Lydenburg, but the Lowveld, Mpumalanga and South Africa.
It is the oldest Ford dealership in South Africa.
Garth McGee’s grandfather, Michael McGee, emigrated from Ireland to set up a garage in 1886. Michael’s son, Bernard McGee, made it into a Ford dealership in 1926. It was formerly known as McGee & Co.

The Lydenburg/Mashishing Business Chamber (LMBC), issued its condolences to the McGee family. “As members of the LMBC we were sad to learn of the loss of one of our own. Our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Garth McGee. To say goodbye is never easy, especially to a high-impact individual like Garth. He was the third generation heading up McGee & Co in Lydenburg, The Lydenburg/Mashishing Business Chamber (LMBC), issued its condolences to the extended McGee family.”
