Trial for the murder of Lt Col Leroy Bruwer to start in June
The trial will be held at the Mpumalanga High Court from June 6 to 17.
The man implicated in the 2020 murder of Lt Col Leroy Bruwer will appear again in the Mpumalanga High Court for the start of his trial on June 6.
Sinovuyo Salela (30) had appeared in the Mpumalanga High Court both on February 7 and 9, however the National Prosecuting Authorities provincial spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, said the court has moved Salela’s case to June 6.
It is expected to end on June 17. Nyuswa said the reason for this is to secure an isiXhosa interpreter.

“During his appearance on February 9, the state was ready to proceed with the trial, however the defence indicated that the accused insisted on having an isiXhosa interpreter,” she said.
“All parties involved agreed to postpone the matter, and all state witnesses were warned to be present in court on June 6, when the trial starts.”
Salela is charged with the murder of Bruwer, who had been shot and killed on the R37 towards Mbombela in March 2020. Salela handed himself over to the police in Tsolo in the Eastern Cape and was then transported to Mbombela where he has been held ever since.
