Only 17 points separate the top 10 players following the eighth round of the 2026 Lowvelder Golf Challenge at Mbombela Golf Club on September 16.

The seventh round was tight, with only 12 points separating the top 10 players, and the eighth round was no different.

Potgieter claims top spot

Jaco Potgieter took the lead with 189 points. Christo Smith and John Ross Tapson took second and third place with 184 and 183 points, respectively. Smith moved up from third to second place in the seventh round of the 2026 Lowvelder Golf Challenge, held on August 19.

Paul Greyvenstein is sitting in fourth place, neck-and-neck with Smith and Tapson with 183 points. Leon Wait is in fifth place with 180 points. JJ van Rensburg dropped to sixth place after finishing second in the seventh round.

Grand prize keeps title race open

The competition is still wide open, and competitors will again play at Mbombela Golf Club in the ninth round on October 7.

With a grand prize of a year’s free membership to Mbombela Golf Club going to the winner, come the final round on November 15, the competition in the last two rounds is bound to heighten. Players’ top five scores will count towards their final score.
