Mbombela robbery victim asks public’s assistance

The victim requested the public to assist her with a donation of laptops for her support centre, and to help recover her stolen vehicle.

The mother who was tied up for five hours with her three children during a robbery in Steiltes on September 30, is asking for assistance to recover her stolen car and laptops, and possible donations for her support centre for children with dyslexia.
During the incident, the robbers took 10 laptops that were used at the centre, and seven cellphones. “After the ordeal, someone donated a laptop so that I could continue to assist the children. However, that is not enough, as I assist quite a few of them. So, if we can get a few more laptops and an additional cellphone, as they took the one we were using at the centre, we would highly appreciate it,” the victim said.

She urged members of the public to assist her and the police to locate her car and the laptops, as they are her only source of income.

The family was held hostage by three unknown males who had been waiting inside the property as she parked her vehicle in the garage. Two of her children got out first, and it was while they went into the house and she was assisting her youngest, that the men came out of nowhere and held them up at gunpoint, took the car keys and closed the garage door. “I tried to scream, but they threatened to shoot me if I did not keep quiet,” the mother said. “They tied us up and blindfolded us while searching for the car’s tracker. This took them almost five hours. When they found it, they burnt it in front of me, before ordering me to show them where the safe was. The robbers took my entire holiday savings of R10 000 and even the coins inside the safe.”

The family have returned to the house, even though they still have bad memories. The victim has not heard anything from the police after the incident, but with the recent arrest of three suspects in Steiltes, she believes that she might recover her stolen property.
A provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said no arrests have been made and the stolen car and items have not been recovered. “The SAPS is still investigating the matter. Anyone with information may contact Detective Colonel Donald Mkhaliphi on 079 230 3126,” he said.
