American-Korean violinist to perform in Lowveld
From Beethoven to Rachmaninoff and other lighter classical works are on the programme at a performance featuring the Korean-American violinist, Hana Yim-Wahl.

The American-Korean violinist, Hana Yim-Wahl, will be performing with Tobias Kruger (piano) and Walter Fourie (tenor) for a lovely midday concert at 12:00 on Sunday October 30 at 13 Miller Street, Mbombela.
On the programme will be a selection of works by Beethoven for violin, piano and vocals, some Rachmaninoff, as well as lighter classical works.
Tickets are priced at R150, include snacks and drinks, and are available on Quicket. Pre-booking is essential as the seating is limited.
Yim-Wahl moved to South Africa in 2007 after living in London for a period of time. She was born in Virginia, USA, and has been playing the violin since the age of 11, studying primarily with Cindy Finks of the National Symphony Orchestra.

As a youth, she played with the American Youth Philharmonic under the direction of Luiz Haza and participated in master classes under the direction of Benjamin Zander and Leonard Slatkin. She was also given a prestigious placement with the National Symphony Orchestra Youth Fellowship Program, in which she was afforded the opportunity to perform several times on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage and learn from artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Gil Shaham, and Hilary Hahn.
After graduating high school, she gained scholarships to study at the James Madison University and the Royal College of Music in London.
Through freelance work, she has also played with the Manasses Ballet Company, the Prince William Symphony Orchestra, the Washington Symphony Orchestra and several others.
While in South Africa, Yim-Wahl joined the Barnyard Theatres as their first-choice violinist performing in shows like Broadway Rocks, Route 66 and Roll Over Beethoven.

She has travelled with this group to the Seychelles, Zimbabwe and the United Arab Emirates. She is a regular visitor to Tanzania as a violinist in several corporate functions.
She is currently a member of the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra (JFO) and freelances with several others such as the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Johannesburg Music Initiative. She has travelled to the Kruger National Park and Mozambique most recently with the JFO.
Being a member of the JFO has afforded her the chance to play with artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé and Dave Stewart, to name a few.
Lastly, she is one of the founding members of the Scullery Quintet, a crossover jazz/classical quintet with Waldo Luc Alexander, Tiisetso Mashishi, Peter Auret and Amaeshi Ikechi. This group has most recently played the Atterbury Klassiek in Pretoria, Wakkerstroom Music Festival and Woordfees in Stellenbosch, to great feedback.
