Salga welcomes new Mpumalanga director of operations
The South African Local Government Association (Salga) welcomed Dr Derrick Ndlovu as its new provincial director of operations in Mpumalanga on Tuesday November 1.

As the new provincial director of operations for the South African Local Government Association (Salga), Dr Derrick Ndlovu said he hopes to see improvements in local government.
Born in Emjindini Trust in Mpumalanga, Ndlovu said he wants to see provincial municipalities offering their best to its communities, as well as an honest and committed workforce.
Ndlovu was announced as the new provincial director on November 1.

A statement by Salga said Ndlovu was not new to the local government sphere or within Salga, and his admirable profile includes being a former part-time councillor in the Ehlanzeni District Municipality, serving in its executive committee from 1995 to 2000.
The statement said Ndlovu then went on to become a ward councillor and the speaker of Umjindi Local Municipality from 2000 to 2006, and afterwards a member of the mayoral committee responsible for technical services in the same municipality from 2006 to 2009.
In 2009, Ndlovu began working as a programme manager for municipal infrastructure and services at Salga from 2009 to 2012, and was also a former board member of the Barberton Community Radio Station.
“He served as a chairperson of the Mpumalanga Energy Forum, working with Salga, municipalities, the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, and Eskom.

“He was also a Salga facilitator for the Integrated Councillor Induction Programme during 2011 and 2016, and the director for corporate services at the former Umjindi Local Municipality from March 2012, and thereafter he was appointed as the general manager for the regional service centre co-ordination after the amalgamation of Umjindi and the City of Mbombela in 2016. He was in this position until July 2022.”
The statement said Ndlovu also held the position of acting municipal manager for Nkomazi Local Municipality, seconded by the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, from August to October 2022.
“Salga is pleased to have Dr Ndlovu joining the team,” it said.
