Multiple injured in on-head collusion in Mbombela

The Jaws of Life had to be used to free one driver trapped in one of the vehicles.

Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene of a collision involving an SUV and a delivery vehicle on Dr Enos Mabuza Drive on Saturday November 12.

According to their statement, on arrival at the scene, the crews found the wreckage of a light delivery vehicle lying on its side on the shoulder of the roadway.

“Five people were found to have been ejected when the delivery vehicle rolled off the roadway, after colliding head-on with an SUV.

“The injured were treated and stabilised on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care,” read the statement.

The driver of the SUV was found to be entrapped in the wreckage. Hydraulic equipment, including the Jaws of Life, were used to cut him free, while paramedics stabilised him using numerous interventions.

Once free and stabilised, he was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care.

The police were not available to comment, but they are still gathering more information. This is a developing story. Lowvelder will update its readers once more is made available.
