Three people shot and wounded during high-speed chase to Malalane

In a high-speed chase, three male suspects in a Ford ranger pursued and shot at the occupants of a Polo, the motive for which the police is still investigating.

The Malalane police are investigating a case of attempted murder following a high-speed chase.

On November 8 at about 15:00, a high-speed chase ensued between a white Ford Ranger and black Polo Vivo, starting at Buffelspruit and heading towards Malalane.

According to Sergeant Bheki Nkosi, a spokesperson for Malalane SAPS, the Ford Ranger was chasing the Polo Vivo, which had three occupants, two males and one female.

During the chase, shots were allegedly fired at the Polo’s back window. The hail of bullets hit the three occupants. The driver sustained bullet wounds to the shoulder, the woman sustained leg injuries and the second male sustained serious neck injuries.

The Polo’s driver managed to drive to Malalane and stopped the vehicle at Malelane Auto Mark, the Ford Ranger pulling in behind it as it did so.

Two occupants from the Polo managed to get out of the vehicle and attempted to find help from the dealer’s shop personnel.

The police were informed and reacted to the scene, where they found the three victims of the shooting as well as the suspects. They mobilised medical emergency personnel to treat the victims, after which the local SAPS opened a case of attempted murder.

The three male suspects were arrested and one 9mm pistol was confiscated for further investigation. The motive behind the shooting will be revealed as the investigation unfolds.

The victims were taken to Shongwe Hospital for treatment.

The suspects, Mandla Mvube (43), Hlanganyelwa Khoza (60) and Thembinkosi Masiye (26) appeared in the Malelane Magistrate’s Court on November 9 on three counts of attempted murder. The trio were granted bail of R1 000 each. The case was postponed to December 7.
