Truck drives into Marite spaza shop, three injured
The truck driver lost control and hit the spaza shop. He sustained serious injuries while the other two sustained minor ones.

A driver of an articulated truck is fighting for his life in hospital.
He had lost control of the truck on Monday and it swerved towards a spaza shop, demolishing it. Two people inside the shop were injured and were rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention, but they were released later that same day.
According to an eyewitness, Antonatte Mokoena, the truck driver was travelling in Hazyview’s direction from Bushbuckridge when he lost control and drove into the busy spaza shop.
“The two shop owners who were inside when the accident occurred, were lucky to come out alive, because the driver was driving at a high speed. I suspect the truck had a brake failure or the driver was tired,” she said.

One of the injured said he was lucky to have survived such an accident. “It could have been worse, as the youth in the area like to hang around the tuck shop as it is one of the busiest in the area. As for me and my colleague, we did not see anything, I can only recall a huge sound out and saw a roof coming doing on us. I did not know where to run or hide. But I am glad that we are still alive with minor injuries, but now I am just worried about the damages and loss of business since we are not operating,” he said.

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said they are investigating the cause of the accident and impressed upon all drivers to always drive with caution. “Motorists are encouraged to always rest when they are tired, and truck owners must service their trucks regularly to avoid unnecessary accidents. We would like to wish a speedy recovery to the victims,” he said.
The owners of the truck were unavailable for comment.
