Bodies of two men found at Tonga sewerage plant

Some security guards happened upon the naked bodies of two unknown men next to a wall at the plant.

The Tonga SAPS are investigating the discovery of two naked bodies found dumped in a sewerage plant on Wednesday morning, November 30, by security guards who were patrolling the area.

A statement by a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said the bodies had been dumped in the grass behind a low wall at the plant, a few metres away from the Nkomazi River.

“According to the guards, their attention was drawn to the area when they noticed a leg of one of the victims on the wall,” said Mohlala.

“Upon closer inspection, they discovered the two victims with injuries. They were lying motionless, hence emergency services were immediately notified.”

He said a case with two counts of murder was opened.

“An investigation is under way, however, it is suspected that the victims could have been assaulted somewhere else and then dumped at the scene. The police also discovered some bloodstains on the path leading to where the victims were found.

“The motive behind the senseless murder is still unknown at this stage, and the police are doing their best to establish the circumstances surrounding the victims’ death.”

The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, has strongly condemned this incident and called on community members to work closely with the police to address crime.
