Some areas of Mbombela will be without electricity due to damaged substation

The community joins in to assist municipal workers in digging up the damaged cables at the substation.

Various tests have been done on equipment at the West Acres Substation that was damaged early this morning.

According to the spokesperson for the City of Mbombela, Joseph Ngala, most of the equipment has been found to be undamaged, though replacements for  the damaged equipment are still being sourced.

“We will be switching on The Rest and Mediclinic by tonight. Unfortunately other areas will remain without power until tomorrow. Due to the fact that some of the factories and companies are closed, we might struggle to get equipment. Previous equipment failures like these have taken longer than a day, even when it wasn’t during the holiday,” he said.

West Acres residents are currently on the scene assisting municipal officials in digging up the burned-out cables since it is working on the skeleton staff due to the festive season.
