Load-shedding respite for start of 2023

South Africa welcomes the promise of full power until January 2.

Eskom has announced that load-shedding will be suspended until 05:00 on Monday, January 2, whereafter stage 2 will be implemented until further notice.

The power utility said in a statement, “Over the past 24 hours, Eskom teams have returned three generation units to service. This, with the expected long weekend demand, has sufficiently reduced the constraints on the system, allowing Eskom to suspend load-shedding.”

Although the suspension was due to take affect at 20:00 on Friday, December 30, many areas in Mbombela experienced outages until 05:00 this morning, December 31.

Meanwhile, parts of West Acres are still without power as contractors Mandlakazi Electrical Technologies continue to locate damaged cables and repair mini substations. Ruby/Akwamaryn and Asbestos/Alibama have been restored.

Outage schedules for the first week of 2023 have yet to be released.
