Load-shedding respite is over

Locals say the suspension of power outages over New Year’s was too good to be true.

Stage 2 load-shedding resumed as of 16:00 today, December 31,
across South Africa.

Eskom has announced that the suspension of load-shedding from 16:00 today until January 2, as previously confirmed by the power utility, no longer applies.

This follows the breakdown of five undisclosed generating units since yesterday afternoon.

Local social media groups like Lowveld Community News have been scathing, with comments ranging from “It was too good to be true” to “This is gallows humour.”
