Trial date set for man charged with culpable homicide of Mbombela Hawks officer

A man will stand trial on a charge of culpable homicide. This relates to the death of a Mpumalanga Hawks officer, Warrant Officer Gerrie le Grange, who died the day after a car crash in Mbombela in 2021.

A trial date has been set for a man charged with the culpable homicide following the death of Mpumalanga Hawks officer, Warrant Officer Gerrie le Grange in 2021.

The Mpumalanga National Prosecuting Authority’s Monica Nyuswa said Martheius Grobler’s trial will be heard in the Nelspruit District Court on December 4. He last appeared in the court on Friday October 6.

Le Grange died following a collision with a Ford Ranger on September 23, 2021. He had been rushing along Samora Machel Drive near Man Truck and Bus Nelspruit when the crash occurred.

He was rushed to Mediclinic Nelspruit, however, at 05:30 the next day, just over 12 hours after the accident, he was pronounced dead due to complications. He died just two weeks before his 48th birthday.
