Over 1 000 compete in various sporting codes at Reef 7s in White River

A festive atmosphere complemented the fast action at Hoërskool Rob Ferreira.

The Circufin Kudus won the Premier Rugby League trophy at the NTT Toyota Reef 10s at Hoërskool Rob Ferreira on Friday and Saturday.
They defeated the Kiewiete 19-7 in the final.

Seventeen rugby teams competed in the premier and social rugby leagues on the day.

A 10km road race and 4.9km fun run were also held.

The beer garden was packed with recovering players and supporters, and a festive atmosphere reigned on Friday evening and during Saturday.

The massive event, with 1 070 players and double that number in family members and friends attending, was superbly organised and executed.

“The Reef 10s was started by Rob Ferreira Legacy and White River Rugby Club in 2019, with only eight rugby teams and eight netball teams. The tournament grew each year, and in 2023, netball 6s (17 teams), hockey 5s (15 teams) and cricket 7s (six teams) were played. A 10km road race and 4.9km fun run were also held and attracted 150 runners and walkers.

“This is over 100% growth on last year’s entries. We aim to make the Reef 10s a family day at which husband and wife, father and mother can compete in a congenial atmosphere,” said Charles Gates, the tournament organising committee and Rob Legacy chairperson.

Other winners:
• Social rugby – Lumberjacks
• Women’s netball – Jaguars
• Mixed netball – Venom
• Men’s hockey – Storm Chasers
• Women’s hockey – Smurfs
• Men’s cricket – Pikkewyne.
