Duo allegedly connected with break-in at Mpumalanga Hawks head’s Mbombela home released on bail

Two men who were arrested in connection with breaking into the Mbombela home of Major General Nico Gerber, the head of the Mpumalanga Hawks, were recently released on bail.

Skhumbuzo Lasley Khathi (43) and Phumlani Nkosi (37) have been released on R2 000 bail each, following their recent appearance in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court in connection with breaking into the Mbombela home of the head of the Mpumalanga Hawks, Major General Nico Gerber.

The two are expected to make another appearance in court on February 20. They were arrested on January 9 after they had allegedly broken into Gerber’s home in December.

The Hawks’ spokesperson, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, said they appeared in court on charges of possession of stolen property.

“During further investigation, previous cases were picked up, and the accused were linked to other serious cases pending in court,” she said.
