UPDATE: Man appears in Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court for possession of a large amount of dagga

Colonel Donald Mdhluli, a provincial police spokesperson, said the SAPS had confiscated the dagga from the man during Operation Vala Umgodi.

The Mpumalanga police said the 28-year-old man who was arrested for possession of dagga by some border policing members deployed on Operation Vala Umgodi, appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court in Tonga on Monday March 25.

A provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said Thulani Muzi Dlamini from the Kingdom of eSwatini was arrested on the R570 in Buffelspruit on Sunday March 24. “His case was postponed to Tuesday March 26 for a formal bail application. He is facing a charge of dealing in dagga, as he was found with about 9kg of it. The confiscated dagga has a street value of about R37 800. The suspect was a taxi commuter, and when asked for his passport, he failed to provide the necessary documentation for him to be in South Africa,” Mdhluli said.

“On this matter, the police are working together with officials of the Department of Home Affairs to ascertain his status in the country. Meanwhile, the suspect has been charged for contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa,” he said.

The court outcome was unknown at the time of publishing.
