Hazyview Karate Dojo hosts first successful competition of the year

The competition had more than 60 karatekas participating. A second event will be hosted again later this year.

Hazyview Karate Dojo recently hosted a successful competition at the Aeroplane Hangar. Over 60 karatekas competed.

According to the organiser, Sandra van Vuuren, the competition was hosted by Sensei Hugo Lusse to encourage young people to get involved in karate, as it teaches discipline and focus.

“The venue was packed to capacity by karate lovers. After seeing the people of Hazyview being part of the event, we are encouraged to do more. We are planning another competition later this year, which I have no doubt will also be well supported,” she said.

Van Vuuren thanked all the participants for their interest in the sport and taking the time to compete. She also thanked those who came to watch.

Hazyview Dojo participated in kata and kumite, and all the karatekas did well. A gold and silver medal were awarded to Sensei Rohan Louw.

The overall results are as follows:
• Ava Gilfillan: gold for kumite and silver for kata
• Divan van Staden: gold for kata, silver for kumite
• Jason van der Berg: gold for kumite and bronze for kata
• Jurgens Lubbe: silver for kumite and silver for kata
• Logan Buurman: bronze for kata
• Boston Brown: silver for kata and silver for kumite
• Bristol Brown: silver for kata and silver for kumite
• Righardt Schroeder: silver for kumite and bronze for kata
• Jacquie Winwood: bronze for kata and bronze for kumite
• Liam van der Schyff: bronze for kata and bronze for kumite.
